Shelby Clark

Shelby joined Kiva.org in early 2007, and helped to establish Kiva’s investment strategies as the loan portfolio grew from approximately $1M to over $40M. He first worked with one of Kiva’s field partners in rural Uganda, and later became Kiva’s Portfolio Risk Director, based at Kiva’s Headquarters in San Francisco. As Portfolio Risk Director, Shelby was responsible for establishing due diligence, monitoring, and investment strategies for Kiva’s loan portfolio. He was also responsible for identifying and managing investments with a high risk of default or suspected fraud.
Prior to joining Kiva, Shelby worked as a management consultant for Oliver Wyman Consulting (previously Mercer Management Consulting), and as an Investment Associate at the Biotechnology Value Fund, a $600M biotechnology-focused hedge fund. In addition, he assisted a Kenyan NGO, Enterprise Professional Services Program, in launching its microfinance operation, and he sits on EPS’s Board of Directors.
Shelby holds a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University and is currently pursuing an MBA at the Harvard Business School.
