Roy Jacobowitz

Managing Director, External Affairs & Strategic Partnerships, ACCION International
As a member of the senior management team of ACCION International, Roy Jacobowitz is responsible for the marketing, communications and resource development. In addition he collaborates with ACCION’s Global Programs and Investments groups to integrate programmatic, investment and fund development activities to generate strategic partnerships for innovation. He has been involved in ACCION’s work in adapting new technologies to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and reach of microfinance institutions. In that capacity he represented ACCION as the Chair of the Microdevelopment Finance Team, a consortium convened by Hewlett Packard to develop open source remote transaction strategies for MFIs utilizing POS devices. He also chaired the Rockdale Foundation’s Advisory Committee for Microfinance in the Middle East and North Africa. Mr. Jacobowitz has developed ACCION partnerships with Citigroup, AIG, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the International Finance Corporation of The World Bank, among others. He created the ACCION Microenterprise Venture Fund in 1999, one of the first funds to direct both philanthropic and investment dollars to new initiatives, followed by the Helping Millions Help Themselves Campaign to underpin ACCION’s worldwide expansion.
Mr. Jacobowitz has presented ACCION’s work to such diverse audiences as Senior Hedge Fund Managers at the 2007 New GAIM conference in Monaco, microfinance industry leaders at Citigroup’s Conference on Microfinance and Savings Innovation in Singapore, and bankers and investors at the Standard Chartered Bank Global Microfinance Investment Congress. He presents regularly on microfinance at the Harvard Business School, and in other academic fora.
Roy Jacobowitz joined ACCION in 1994 as part of the development team and joined the senior management team in 1998. He has 25 years of experience as a nonprofit executive, including work with organizations in Boston and San Francisco serving at-risk youth. Outside the office, he enjoys sailing Massachusetts Bay with his family. Mr. Jacobowitz holds a B.A. in Russian & Eastern European Studies from Yale University.
