Jurriaan Kamp

Jurriaan Kamp founded Ode Magazine in The Netherlands in 1995 with his wife, Helene de Puy. They built a small and effective team and attracted freelance writers and photographers spanning the globe to join in their mission. In addition to editing and publishing the magazine, Jurriaan, Helene and Ode also brought people together through conferences, seminars and workshops. One conference addressed principles of a world economy in which people matter. The same theme became the subject of a book by Kamp titled Because People Matter, which was published in 2000. He is also the author of a book on the subject of micro-credit, titled Small Change: How Fifty Dollars Changes the World (2003). Before founding Ode, Jurriaan was an editor, correspondent in South Asia and Chief economics editor at the leading Dutch daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad. In 2004, Jurriaan, Helene and their four children moved to California, to begin building Ode Magazine in the U.S. They live in Mill Valley, close to San Francisco.
