Mission Related Investing: A Peer Learning Workshop for Foundations is
a meeting designed around a curriculum of several real-time case
studies. The case studies will highlight work in progress by three
foundations that offer an interesting range of perspectives, with
regards to both size, stage of development, and mission.
Case Study One: Northwest Area Foundation
NWAF recently invested $10 million in a regional venture fund with the intent of promoting sustainable community development in the eight state region of their grant making.
Case Study Two: Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation
Chief Investment Officer Rob Bowers shared his exploration of issues related to venture capital and sustainability.
Case Study Three: Cedar Tree Foundation
This new family foundation is framing an investment policy around a commitment to mission related investing. Foundation President Marty Teitel shared the foundation’s progress in framing and implementing this policy.
The workshop included a strategic discussion of the role of mission related investing with respect to the future of U.S. philanthropy.
