2003 Investors’ Circle National Conference

“Building Sustainable Communities: From Philanthropy to Venture Capital”

November 2-4th
Cambridge, MA

The event brought together angel investors, professional venture capitalists, venture philanthropists, foundations and others to examine the continuum of strategies for deploying risk capital to support social entrepreneurship at the community level. Investors’ Circle’s mission is to catalyze the flow of capital to early stage companies that address social and environmental problems. The educational portion of this year’s conference explicitly examined innovative philanthropic strategies that complement our work.

Day One, in collaboration with Social Venture Partners, offered panels and speakers addressing topics including inner city venture philanthropy, community development venture capital, job creation, and the relationship between for-profit and non-profit strategies for supporting social entrepreneurship and healthy communities.

Day Two of the event featured a venture fair, at which 17 early-stage companies presented potential investment opportunities.
