Patient Capital Collaborative (PCC)
The Patient Capital Collaborative (PCC) is an investment vehicle available exclusively to the IC community and led by IC member Schuyler (Sky) Lance, a 20-year investment veteran. The PCC was launched in 2007 and consists of a series of independent annual investment funds – limited partnerships – that invest in companies that have applied for financing through the Investors’ Circle application process. The Fund’s portfolio is therefore expected to consist solely of early- or expansion-stage venture deals that combine social, environmental, and financial returns. The Fund focuses on companies that fit within IC’s industry preferences, and the Fund is expected to generally make investments in the following categories:
-
Energy & Environment
-
Food & Organics
-
Community & International Development
-
Education & Media
-
Health & Wellness

Slow Money
Slow Money is a movement and an organization. The movement is a response to money that is too fast, companies that are too big, and finance that is too complex. Its goal is to make it possible for people to easily and directly connect our values to the way we spend and invest money. It starts with local food because building healthy, robust local food systems is the first step towards building a restorative economy. The organization focuses on four initiatives: building networks, creating new financial products and services, developing educational programs, and designing assessment tools to identify opportunities in local food systems. Slow Money was born out of a project led by Woody Tasch and staffed at IC, while he was chairman of Investors’ Circle, and funded at that time by The Kellogg Foundation and other individual investors and philanthropists. Woody Tasch wrote and released the book Slow Money in 2009. Since its publication in January 2009, the book has inspired dozens of groups around the world to self organize to invest money in local food systems and small food enterprises.

B Lab
B Lab envisions a new sector of the economy which harnesses the power of private enterprise to create public benefit. This sector, sitting between the for-profit and non-profit sectors, is comprised of a new type of corporation – the B corporation. B corporations are unlike traditional responsible businesses because they 1) institutionalize stakeholder interests; and 2) meet comprehensive and transparent social and environmental performance standards.
The mission of B Lab, a non-profit organization, is to support B corporations and this emerging sector by 1) developing and disseminating a legal framework to institutionalize stakeholder interests within existing corporate law; 2) certifying and rating B corporations; and 3) creating and promoting a powerful unifying brand.
By becoming a B corporation, entrepreneurs can 1) stand out as leaders; 2) grow and create liquidity without compromising their values; and 3) differentiate their business through billions of dollars of collective market presence and millions of dollars of marketing spent by B Lab promoting B corporations as distinct, and meaningful.
